Our most recent sea travels occurred in September and October 2008. We traveled from Victoria, BC to San Diego on the MV Zaandam via the Hawaiian Islands taking about three weeks.

In the past I built up a slide show of our trips using HTML format and posted it on our WEB page.  This is a time consumming process because pictures have to be compressed to create an efficient size file for downloading using old dial-up accesses.  With the advent of broadband, I decided to use Microsofts Power Point slide generation capability.  This makes the task so much easier and faster but is inefficent from the download point of view.  Trading one issue for another.  I decided to give it a try using the FTP file transfer protocol. Using FTP in the background allows you to continue browsing while the download occurs.

Clicking on the links below will enable an FTP transfer which can be interrupted at any time.  In the event you get disconnected, you can reconnect from the same PC and it will pick up where you left off.... a nice feature.  When a dialog box comes up and asks if you wish to run or save the program, select save.  It will then ask you for a directory where you wish to save it.

Once the complete file(s) have been downloaded, you can run them by simply:

Run <filename>.pps from the Start Menu or select it using Explorer and double clicking.

If you do not have a Microsoft Power Point reader or full Power Point application installed, you can obtain a reader, free, at: Click Here.

Power Point Slide Show Start Download Size
Main Cruise
Click Here 138 Megabytes (18 min)
Orchid Farm
Click Here 48 Megabytes (6 min)
San Diego Zoo
Click Here 57 Megabytes (6 min)

Keep in mind that these files are very large and can take some time even with broadband. The first one has links to the other two but you still need to download all three for a complete show. They will open in full screen mode. To exit show, hit "esc" button in upper left on keyboard.

A complete CD can be sent with all slides by requesting it.
