The Amateur
Radio
Public Service
schedule for the North Olympic Peninsula will be updated as the year
progresses.
All utilize our VHF/UHF communications capabilities and in some
cases, enhanced antennas. Most find these events fun and a chance
to test your ability to set up a battery operated 2 way communications
capability at a remote location, pass simple traffic and meet some nice
people that rely heavily on us as volunteers. You will receive many
'thanks' from participants for being there.
This will be the first year that we'll have a portable crossband repeater, used when appropriate, to cover events. Properly placed, it will allow complete radio coverage of the activity w/o the use of regular mountain top repeaters. Developed for emergency airborne radio relay in 2008, it provides extended communications range when using handhelds in public service events. More information about the repeater here.
Each event will have a detailed description plus positions needed about one month before. On line sign-up will be used again this year. As descriptions are posted, one of us will announce availability on the 146.760 repeater ARES net. Sign-up will be first come-first served but we reserve the right to place experienced people in critical positions. First timers are always welcome and needed but allow us to place you until you gain experience.
Come on out, have a little fun and meet the "shakers and movers" of our community.
